Jill Marshall

I found my passion for Occupational Health Nursing early in my career. I enjoyed the opportunities the role gave me, and it prepared me to respond to any injury or illness that occurred on site. As I grew throughout my career and became board certified, I itched to find new experiences and challenges.

Inspired to learn more about occupational health, I returned to school to earn my master’s degree at UNC at Chapel Hill. I learned firsthand the intensity of my role, and I knew that if I wasn’t part of the solution, I was part of the problem.

It became clear to me while working to improve employee health across the country that companies face significant costs due to medical, healthcare, and safety issues. As I moved into a leadership role, I found my friend and associate, April Nelson. Her focus on improving worker health matched my own, and together we formed JC Michaelson Consulting.

April Nelson

I was lucky enough to grow up in a small town where a firm handshake is your bond. However, that small town charm came with a few disadvantages, such as big businesses crippling “mom and pop” shops and injuries of workers closing the front doors or ruining family farms.

I knew that I could make a difference for small businesses and farmers. As I studied exercise science at Murray State University, I quickly found athletic training. I earned my Master’s degree and eventually shifted from the sidelines of athletic events to the industrial sector where I applied my orthopedic skills in the Occupational Health department. What a perfect fit! I worked side by side with safety professionals to prevent and mitigate workplace injuries to the “industrial athlete.”

My career led me to Jill Marshall, whose unique views on how to help navigate the healthcare system are incredibly effective. Our common goals help us work for the betterment of the workplace, together.
